ONE Opportunity – the new name for microYPS.
The Methodist national team has recognised the brilliance of the microYPS scheme and is adopting it nationally. To be consistent with other Methodist national youth schemes microYPS is being rebranded to ONE Opportunity from September 2017. The York and Hull Methodist District Micro Youth Participation Scheme has been running for 5 years; although it is being rebranded, the essence and programme remains unchanged for 2017-18.
The ONE Opportunity scheme 2017-18 will run from 1st September 2017 – 31st August 2018 and applications are welcome from any young person in the Yorkshire – north and east district (formerly York and Hull district) who is aged 16-23. Successful applicants will be offered a salaried position of 3 hours a week on a project that will enhance the life and mission of a church and enable the participant to work out their discipleship in new ways. They will be expected to attend four district training events through the year: an induction day and three residential weekends. These enable them to be part of a community of young people learning and reflecting together.
The cost of participation is £446, we expect this to be divided between the local church and circuit, in whatever ratio they feel is appropriate. The district will contribute the salary for 3 hours a week at living wage rate.
Saturday 23rd September 2017: Induction day Pocklington Methodist Church
Friday 6th – Sunday 8th October 2017: Residential weekend at Sneaton Castle, Whitby.
